March for Babies-Houston, TX 04/26/09

***Disclosure-No compensation was received.  Informational post only.So today we did the March for Babies. Who, Three blogger moms and their kids. Elsa @creativemom with her daughter, Anahi, Sarah @onthegomommy, mother and daughter, Celi, and myself-Alba @independentmami, my little brother, Christian, and my son, Matt. We walked for 5 miles and yes we were tired. The kids had to take breaks and of course the shoes laces would not stayed tied long enough for us to move along with the crowd. Today many families walked together. It was a beautiful day to raise awareness to the people driving by. We walked around the streets and down a bayou, and back down to the University of Houston. Personally I walked to make a difference, to raise awareness, and to teach my son we can all make a difference. It was a great day and we had a blast. This year was our first year doing the March of Dimes-March for babies but it won't be our last. Check out moments from our day. And below is more information.

It's America's favorite walking event! When you walk, you give hope to the families of babies born too soon or sick. The money you raise supports programs in your community that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies. And it funds research to find answers to the serious problems that threaten our babies. We've been walking since 1970 and have raised an incredible $1.8 billion to benefit all babies.

March for Babies takes place in more than 900 communities across the country. You'll be joining
1 million people walking with their families or co-workers. Expect to run into some old friends and make new ones — and keep your eyes open for our celebrity walkers!

Family Teams are made up of friends and families walking together to celebrate or honor a baby in their lives. And many of our family teams walk in memory of a baby who didn't survive. These special teams remind everyone of the importance of our mission to help all babies be born healthy.

The March of Dimes uses your money wisely: 77% of every dollar supports research and programs that help moms have full-term pregnancies and babies begin healthy lives. And your funds are used to bring comfort and information to families whose baby was born too soon, or sick.

  1. Try some colored shoeslaces from Mylaces.com. They will stay tied long enough ;)
