State Farm recently launched their latest program, Play Today. Illuminate Tomorrow (Juega Hoy. Ilumina El Mañana), as part of their sponsorship of the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Gold Cup Semifinals are taking place here Houston, TX on tomorrow, June 22. This State Farm event is taking place at the game!
State Farm has partnered with sOccket™ (a soccer ball that generates and stores electricity via physical play) in an effort to bring a light of hope to the Latin America and Caribbean countries with lack of access to electricity. With Play Today. Illuminate Tomorrow program, State Farm is asking Gold Cup attendees to stop by the mini State Farm soccer field for the chance to physically play with and donate sOccket balls to participating countries. There will also be athlete and celebrity appearances! Additionally, there is a brand new Juega e Ilumina tab on the State Farm Latino Facebook page, which will house the opportunity for visitors to generate and donate sOccket™ balls as well. Every 15 minutes of play collected will result in one sOccket™ ball donation, so State Farm will donate more sOccket™ balls when consumers play more (online and offline).
SOCCKET™ PARTNERS WITH STATE FARM® TO UNVEIL POWER GENERATING SOCCER BALLS WITH ITS JUEGA HOY. ILUMINA EL MAŃANA PROGRAM
NEW YORK (JUNE 14, 2011) --- 31 million people in Latin America and more than a quarter of Latin American rural communities have no electricity.* Americans often do not recognize and understand the difficulties that a life without electricity brings. Thanks to sOccket™, a newly developed product from Uncharted Play, Inc., play time can also mean a solution to this unfortunate situation in Latin American countries around the world. sOccket™, a soccer ball that harnesses and stores green energy during play for later use as a power source, has partnered with State Farm® to launch its Juega Hoy. Ilumina el Mañana (Play Today. Illuminate Tomorrow) program in association with the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the regional soccer championship of North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.
sOcckets are portable generators that combine the fun of soccer with innovative engineering, providing clean power and a purposeful symbol of empowerment for those with limited access to energy around the world.
The State Farm Juega Hoy. Ilumina el Mañana program allows participants the opportunity to generate energy, while playing with the prototype balls, for their participating Latin American Gold Cup country of choice. Participants will be able to play with the prototypes in person at select Gold Cup events and virtually on State Farm Latino, State Farm’s Hispanic Facebook page, and via an iPhone mobile application. Their physical and virtual activity will be tracked, and the more play that occurs, the more sOccket balls will be shipped to Latin American countries in need. Every 15 minutes of play equals one more ball that will be donated. Participating consumers will have the opportunity to vote on where they would like to send a sOccket ball. The top three Latin American countries receiving votes will receive sOcckets.
“State Farm is so happy to be able to be a founding corporate Champion of sOccket to help these Latin American countries in dire need. As the good neighbors to the North, we hope that soccer fans will take part in these fun activities and help us send the first large shipment of sOccket balls to the chosen Latin American countries.” Said Pam El, marketing vice president for State Farm. “We understand that the Hispanic community in North America has a strong desire to help their families in their home countries and we hope that this program will empower them to assist in yet another way.”
“When State Farm came to us with their Juega Hoy. Illumina el Manana program, we knew immediately that we had found a great partner in the fight for energy empowerment around the world,” said sOccket co-inventor and Uncharted Play, Inc. CEO, Jessica O. Matthews. “We were seeking a venue to bring sOcckets to Latin American communities that needed them most, and with State Farm’s help, it is finally happening.”
The balls will appear at 10 of 13 Gold Cup participating cities during the month of June and participants can interact online, download the mobile app, track activity and vote for where the balls will be donated via State Farm’s Hispanic Facebook page at facebook.com/statefarrmlatino. sOccket, the flagship movement for Uncharted Play, Inc., will be available for purchase by end of summer 2011.
