#SayAdiosToDiapers Pull Ups Training Pants Houston Luncheon #ad

This is a compensated campaign in collaboration with Pull Ups Training Pants and Latina Bloggers Connect.  Like always any opinions expressed are my own based on my personal experience.

This past Sunday, I was invite to a wonderful luncheon with some Houston, San Antonio, and Austin bloggers.  Thanks to Pull Ups, and Jeanette Kaplun.  Who is Ms. Kaplun?
She is an award-winning journalist, spokesperson, TV personality and internationally recognized parenting expert, who has over 18 years of experience on TV, radio, online media and as a published author.  She was born in El Paso, Texas.  So she has Texas roots!!   In 2012 she launched her bilingual platform for Hispanic women, Hispana Global.  She is a Latina Mogul to look out for.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jeanette a while back when I first started blogging.  She is a person who inspires me.  When I started blogging, I started looking for a voice, advice, and a support system.  Jeanette is one person I can say I look up to, would seek advice from, and never hesitate to reach out to.  I was so happy she was coming to Houston to share tips on a very sore parenting topic I am currently battling.  POTTY TRAINING!  You think kid #2 would be easier but after 13 years and this time he is a she, not gonna happen.  So I was intrigued to go hear and share our stories.

With most of us having at least 2 children, we all had something to share.  The first thing we all agreed on, was asking ourselves if our toddler was ready?  Not by society standards or what the FAMILIA is telling you.  Is your toddler showing signs that they want to start potty training?  Are there signs?  Do your toddler take their diaper off?  Are they scared of the toilet?  Do they walk into the restroom with you?

My daughter has been interested.  She started pulling off her diapers several months ago.  But I don't think she was ready or maybe, we parents, weren't ready.

Next step, we all had something to say about was the actual potty training.  How do you start?  Do you get a chart with stickers?  Do you promise a prize?  Do you make up a song?  Do a happy dance?

Once we started, it only came natural to celebrate once she actually went.  We felt so proud.  So we created a potty dance that we all have to do every time she is successful.

But there is no wrong way or perfect way, it is what works for you.  That is what I learned and kept hearing from the mamis present.  We had had tried different methods and had all worked.  Most of us were on child #2 and trying to succeed once again is proving to be more difficult the second time around.  It was good to know that there are resources we can all use.  Apps for the phones, and online tools, are at your finger tips now.  Calling our mamis for advice and reaching out to our close loved ones is not the only solution.

I was so glad to know I was not alone.  Potty training a second child can sometimes be harder the second time around for some of us.  Some of the things I learned were:

1)  Make sure everyone, the FAMILIA including daycares, is all on board once we have started
2)  Potty seats everywhere even at grandmas and on the road  (making my daughter feel comfortable with this change may help her transition easier)
3)  There will be accidents (do not get discouraged)
4)  Keep trying (try, try, try again)
5)  Using training pants overnight even after my toddler is trained can help make the night time accidents less and less if my kiddo has a little back up plan

Do you have any tips for me?  We have already started training her.  She is going to the potty but we have to keep constantly asking her.

To see what the other mamis' tips were look for #SayAdiosToDiapers and be sure to check out Pulls-Ups for more information and tips too.  Check out the resources section, there a lot of great tips in this section that we as trainers can use.
