LUBRIDERM® Hispanic Board Certified Dermatologist, Dr. Maria Patricia Rivas shares her tips on how to nourish and protect your skin this summer for a flawless, supple appearance.
As temperatures rise and the sun rays shine this summer, it is
important for Latinas to understand the importance of skincare and sun
protection. Although Latinas have a higher concentration of melanin (what gives
skin its pigment), they are still prone to skin aging and cancer if they do not
use protection.
Keep your skin moisturized.
The lotion you select should be determined based on your skin
type: normal, dry, sensitive, etc. Based on these characteristics, lotions will
have more or less ingredients to address your specific skincare needs. That is
why LUBRIDERM® is a trusted brand, developed by dermatologists, that offers
several options for different types of skin. There are options for normal and
dry skin, as well as those for sensitive skin, which are free of certain
ingredients and fragrances that could potentially irritate the skin.
It is important to use a moisturizing lotion all over the body at least once a day. LUBRIDERM® Daily Moisture Lotion is great for everyday use because it is formulated with vitamin B5
and other skin essential moisturizers to improve the moisture barrier for
visibly healthier skin that feels soft and smooth.
If you suffer from dry skin, it is recommended to use a lotion twice a day including once after you
shower or bathe. For patients with dryer skin, LUBRIDERM® Advanced Therapy Lotion is a non-greasy, fast-absorbing formula that works to relieve and
restore extra dry skin for a healthy-looking appearance.
Apply 'broad spectrum'
sunscreen daily.
Even on cloudy days, UV rays have the ability to reach our skin
causing hyperpigmentation and potentially, skin cancer.
The FDA regulations require companies to tell the consumer what type of UV
protection a sunscreen offers and what type of rays the sunscreen is capable of
protecting against. To be labeled broad spectrum means that the product
protects against UVA and UVB rays. The LUBRIDERM® Daily Moisture Lotion with Sunscreen Broad
Spectrum SPF 15, for example, has a fast
absorbing formula that delivers broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection and
long-lasting moisture.
Wear sunscreen when near
the water and sand and take protective measures.
It is especially important to wear sunscreen when we are near the
water and sand because these surfaces reflect the damaging rays of the sun,
increasing your chance of sunburn. Besides using sunscreens and lotions, it is
recommended to wear protective clothing such as long-sleeved shirts,
wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses.
Whether
at the beach, pool or park this summer, take care of yourself by incorporating
these preventative steps in your daily routines for healthy-looking skin that
you can feel comfortable in.

I totally agree with you 100%. My husband has excuse after excuse about sunscreen and now he is getting more and more moles on his face. To the point he has to get them checked by the doctor. Great info!
Their "macho" attitude has to change. Glad I could share this info.
